Integration Guide: Dataships

Dataships and Listrak

The Dataships and Listrak integration allows you to maintain compliance by syncing consent status between the two platforms. Dataships automatically syncs new checkout subscribers into the Listrak platform with the appropriate consent status while Listrak syncs changes in status within the Listrak system to Dataships to maintain consent records without any manual imports.

Create an Email API Integration

The first step of the integration is to set up the API integration in the Listrak platform.

  1. Navigate to Integrations.

  2. Click New Integration in the top left.

  3. Click Integrate on the Email Integration card.

  4. On the setup tab:

    1. Give the integration a name.

    2. Grant access to Contact, Event, List, Reporting, and Segmentation.

  5. Add the IP address(es) that are allowed to access this API integration by configuring the IP Address Type.

šŸ’” Contact the Dataships team for the IP addresses if you would like to restrict access.

    1. Select on the following options - Single IP Address, Wildcard Match, or IP Address Range.

    2. Add IP Address(es).

  6. Save the integration.

  7. Copy the Client ID and Client Secret that is generated when saving.

āš ļø The Client Secret cannot be retrieved after navigating away. Make sure to record the value for later access.

Add Listrak Credentials to Dataships

The next step is to add the new integration to your Dataships account.

  1. Navigate to Integrations › Marketing Platforms › Listrak › Install.

  2. Paste the Client ID into the Client ID field.

  3. Paste the Client Secret into the Client Secret field.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Your Client Secret will now be masked. A message will appear to confirm the credentials have saved successfully.

Creating Listrak Lists

The Listrak/Dataship Integration is managed at the individual list level. Creating a new list will keep contacts separate from other marketing contacts who are part of your program. A contact could potentially appear on two different marketing-related Listrak lists and you will need to create and schedule individual emails per list.

šŸ’” You can also use an existing list in your Listrak account. Skip to the next step to connect these to Dataships.

  1. In the Dataships Control Panel, go to Integrations › Listrak › Configure › Email configuration.

  2. Click Go To List Manager to open Listrak’s List Manager.

  3. Create two new email lists

šŸ’” Name the lists as follows for easy setup in Dataships: Dataships Email Single Opt-In and Dataships Email Double Opt-In

  4. Now, you will set up the double opt-in on the double opt-in list:

    1. Navigate to Contacts > Email Contacts List Manager.

    2. Click the 3 dots to open the properties for your double opt-in list and select Settings.

    3. Locate the system messages section.

    4. Click the 3 dots to edit the Double Opt-In message.

    5. Add your desired content.

    6. Click Update Message at the bottom of the page.

Connecting Lists in Dataships

Once both lists are set up in Listrak, select them in Dataships.

šŸ’” Lists named exactly as in step 3 above are automatically selected.

  1. In the Dataships Control Panel, click Refresh under Create your Email Lists in Listrak to load your new lists.

  2. Under Double Opt-in List Consent Status, click Refresh to check that Double Opt-In is enabled.

  3. Under Listrak Email Settings, check that newly created Single Opt-In list is selected in the Email Single Opt-in List dropdown or select your preferred single opt-in list.

šŸ’” If not using the default names the most common list is the Master List.

  4. Check that the newly created Email Double Opt-In list is selected in the Email Double Opt-in List dropdown or select your preferred double opt-in list.

  5. Click Save.

Confirming the Integration Setup

If you want to confirm that the integration is set up correctly, you can check to see if the contacts are subscribing to the new list.

āš ļø If you use existing Listrak lists for both Single and Double Opt-In this will show all contacts, even those who do not subscribe via Dataships.

  1. To check the status of your Single Opt-In list:

    1. Navigate to Contacts > Email Contacts List Manager.

    2. Select the Single Opt-In list your connected.

    3. Navigate to Contacts > Email Contacts View Subscribed Contacts.

    4. Confirm that new contacts have subscribed since your Dataships Integration was completed.

  2. To check the status of your Double Opt-In list:

    1. Navigate to Contacts > Email Contacts List Manager.

    2. Select the Double Opt-In list your connected.

    3. Navigate to Contacts > Email Contacts View Subscribed Contacts.

    4. Confirm that new contacts have subscribed since your Dataships Integration was completed.

Uninstalling the Integration

You can remove the integration in the Dataships platform.

  1. Navigate to Integrations › Marketing Platforms.

  2. Click the trash icon on the Listrak card.

  3. Confirm in the modal.

Uninstalling stops Dataships from syncing any new contacts to Listrak. It does not remove or alter existing contacts in your Listrak account, and it does not delete your lists.

How Consent Is Synced

  • Single opt-in: Contacts are subscribed to your single opt-in list straight away.

  • Double opt-in: Contacts are added to your double opt-in list and Listrak sends them its confirmation email.

  • Opt-outs at checkout: When a shopper opts out through Dataships, they are unsubscribed from both lists.

  • Opt-outs in Listrak: When a shopper unsubscribes inside Listrak, Dataships picks it up automatically and updates their consent record. There are no additional steps needed.
