You can reduce the friction on the path to purchase by displaying a coupon directly on the site instead of requiring a user to navigate between their inbox and your site. You can display a specific coupon set in the journey by referencing a specific identifier in the experience on your site.
There are two methods for displaying coupons in an inline element: implement in the experiences or implementing in the email.
⚠️ Before you begin, you will need to have both your journey with a coupon step set up and saved in draft, test, or active mode.
Option 1: Implementing in an Experience
In this option, you will set a cookie step in a new experience, which allows you to target your inline content to those who have the cookie set. Creating a new experience allows you to streamline management if you add new offers at a later date.
🔑 Things to Consider
Option 1 requires more steps on initial setup
Quicker to update when offers appear in a large number of messages
Easier to implement if you already use custom URL parameters
Allows you to prioritize among a variety of coupons
Step 1: Prepare Journey Messages
The key to setting a cookie is a unique value per coupon that appears in a link URL. You can use values from any URL parameter, including utm_campaign, utm_content, or a custom URL parameter.
If the same coupon is used across journeys, ensure that the same URL parameter appears in all messages using a custom URL parameter.
💡 If you are utilizing Listrak's GXP solution, this may already be completed.
Enabling Custom Variables
For email messages, you can apply the URL parameters at the message level using Custom URL variables. Follow the steps below to enable Custom URL variables.
On the list associated with the messages in your journey, navigate to Settings.
Click View More on the List Settings card in the Email Settings category.
In the Web Analytics section, turn on the Enable Custom URL Variables? toggle.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.
Repeat steps a-d for any additional lists where a contact can be assigned a coupon.
Open the email message that occurs after the first coupon step in the path.
💡 If you had journey hub open when enabling the Custom URL variable, you may need to reload the page.
Scroll to the Analytics section and select the Use custom variables radio button. These parameters will only apply to this message.
Create a unique custom URL parameter that helps identifier the specific offer or message.
Add a key, which is the name of the unique name of the parameter (e.g.: ltk_offer)
Add a value, which is the specific parameter value (e.g.: paste the coupon tag from the coupon step to display the unique code)
Click Add New if you would like to add additional variables.
💡 If your journey contains multiple coupons, make sure to include the correct tag in the parameters.
Reference in Mobile Messages
In mobile messages, you can add the parameters manually to any link included in the message.
For messages where the link is generated by the journey hub data (e.g. cart abandonment) and can differ per user, follow these steps.
After the closing parentheses of the journey tag, paste: ?[[parametername]]= (e.g.: ltk_offer=)
⚠️ If your link contains a question mark, replace the question mark with an ampersand: <k_offer=
After the equal sign, paste the value of the parameter (e.g.: [[Journey:CouponCode]]
You can append additional values using the same format as above. Replace the question mark with an ampersand.
For messages where you are directing to a static site link (e.g. the site home page):
Ensure your link ends in a backslash.
After the backslash, paste: paste: ?[[parametername]]= (e.g.: ltk_offer=)
⚠️ If your static link contains a question mark, replace the question mark with an ampersand: <k_offer=
After the equal sign, paste the value of the parameter (e.g.: [[Journey:CouponCode]]
You can append additional values using the same format as above. Replace the question mark with an ampersand.
Step 2: Set Up the Cookie Management Experience
In this step, you will set up an experience to set specific cookies for each coupon.
Navigate to Content > Experience Builder.
Click New Experience in the top right and select the Inline type.
Click the trigger step to set the following properties:
Trigger Type: On page load
Trigger Delay: 0 seconds
Position: Inside
HTML Element: Custom > body
Drag a Conditional Split onto the canvas.
Add the number of paths that correspond to the number of journeys that contain a coupon you want to reference on the site.
💡 Each user will only be directed down the first eligible path and display a single code. Arrange your paths based on your priority.
Drag a coupon step into each path.
In each coupon step:
Give the step a name (e.g.: the offer or the campaign type).
Cookie Value: This value should be a unique value per offer. You can use any value that appears in the link URL, such as a custom parameter or the campaign name (e.g.: ltk_offer or welcomeseries).
💡 Using a generic value makes it easier to update the coupon used
Expiration: Time Interval
Expiration Interval: # days the coupon is valid (e.g.: 30 days)
Activate the experience.
Step 3: Referencing the Coupon in the Inline Content
In this step, you will create multiple pieces of Inline Content that are targeted to users who have a specific cookie value in their browser. In the Cookie Management experience, a user can only be assigned one cookie per decision split.
Navigate to Content > Experience Builder.
Click New Experience in the top right and select the Inline type.
Click the trigger step to set the following properties:
Trigger Type: On page load
Trigger Delay: 0 seconds
Position: Set based on your design goal.
HTML Element: Use Listrak Workbench to select an element or input a custom selector of you choice.
Navigate to the Targeting tab to apply conditions.
Click Edit conditions.
In the Show section:
Select the Cookie Name condition.
In the input box, insert the name set in step 7a above.
Select Is.
In the input box, insert the cookie value set in step 7b above.
Click Apply.
Add an inline element to the canvas.

Design your inline content to meet your branding needs.

Repeat for all coupons you would like to reference on the site.

What if I want to change the coupon?
In order to change the coupon and have it appear in the experience you must:
Identify the Coupon ID for the new pool of offers
Update the coupon step in the journey to use the new pool
Ensure the coupon tag uses the same name as the previous coupon
Replace the Coupon ID value in the experience(s)
Re-activate the experience(s)
Option 2: Implementing in a Journey Message
In this option, you will need to set up specific message parameters that can be referenced in a Coupon Interactive Element within an Inline Content experience.
🔑 Things to Consider
Requires less work during initial setup
Best for offers that are not likely to be updated (e.g. short-term initiatives)
Best for campaigns with a small number of messages
Changing the offer used in a journey will require you to update all messages that reference the coupon and the inline content.
Easily display a single targeted coupon

Navigate to Content > Coupon Manager.
Find the row associated with the coupon you want to reference.
Right click on the name of the coupon and select Inspect.
In the console, you will see a string of numbers -[column name] that matches the names of the columns in the coupon table.
💡 If you have trouble locating the string use the console search function to find the name of the coupon.
Copy the string of letters and numbers prior to the dash. This is the coupon ID.
