Popup Experience Editor Guide

Learn how to design a popup within the Experience Builder.

Follow the steps below to create a popup in the Experience Builder.

Designing the Popup

  1. Drag the popup element from the Content section to the desired location on the canvas.

  2. Click the popup element to open the properties menu.

  3. Enter a name for the popup.

  4. Click the Popup Design button.

  5. Either Choose from one of the template options or click Start From Scratch to begin building.

    πŸ’‘ Helpful Tips

    1. The template options will still allow you to update the form's creative, select multiple channels and modify the form fields. Follow the steps in the Make Creative Updates/Edits to an existing form.

    2. If starting from Scratch you will need to configure default popup settings. These settings control the overall size and appearance of the popup. If you are satisfied with the preconfigured setting or made updates to them, click Next to begin designing the popup.

  6. Design the popup.

    1. The builder is broken into three components - Settings, Rows, and Content blocks. Check out this article to learn more about how each component applies to the overall design of your popup.

    2. Build the Form. This is how you collect email addresses/phone numbers to subscribe visitors to your marketing programs.

      1. Click Apply to finish the form setup.

  7. When finished designing the popup, click the Apply button.



Form Building

Add a New Form and Configure Profile Fields

A form is added to capture new subscribers to the email and/or SMS marketing programs. The form can also be used to gather other valuable pieces of information about new subscribers such as name, location, birthdates or other custom profile data.

⚠️ Note that setting up the form is slightly different depending on the version of the platform you are building on. Follow the steps in the version you are currently operation on.

*NextGen Platform Configurations*

Start by dragging a Form Content element onto the canvas, then click Edit Form. Complete the steps below to create the form.

Form Fields

  1. By default, the Form will include the Email channel field.

    1. To configure the optional Field Settings click Email Address under the Fields column. Changing the Placeholder text is only configurable option.

    2. Click +Add Field and search for additional options.

  2. To add the SMS channel select Phone Number from the dropdown. To configure, click Phone Number to open the Field Settings.

    1. It is required to select a preconfigured List Subscription Campaign from the dropdown.

    2. Changing the Placeholder text is the other configurable option.

Additional fields can be added to the form that can be used to collect data about a contact. To add an additional field, follow the steps below:

  1. Click the Add Field dropdown menu.

  2. Select an existing profile field.

    1. The format the data is collected is based on the the data type selected when the field is created. Learn more about email and SMS field types.

  3. Click the field name to configure the Field Settings. Options include:

    1. Add placeholder text.

      1. Type the value in the input field.

    2. Make the field a requirement or hide the field in the form.

      1. Check the box next to either option to enable.

    3. Field Mapping - this is used to map the collected data to a profile field on one or both channels. For example, if you selected both channels (email and SMS) and you want to collect 'birthday' it would be ideal to add that profile data to both channels.

      1. Under each channel's dropdown menu, select the profile field the data will be stored in.

    4. Click Delete to remove, if necessary.

  4. Repeat steps 1-3 to add multiple fields to the form.

  5. Click Next to configure the Form Actions.

πŸ’‘ Helpful Form Building Tips:

  • Once the SMS channel has been configured, the option to Delete Email will appear in the Field Settings of the Email Address form field.

  • There must be at least ONE channel capture field per form.

  • At least one primary identifier field must be present on every form.

Form Actions

Select what the visitor will experience after submitting the form, choose from one of the following options:

Form Actions

  • Go to Next Step: Sends the visitor to the next step in the Experience when they submit the form.

  • Go to URL: Sends the visitor to the specific user provided URL value when the submit the form.

  • Close Popup: Closes the popup and ends the experience for the visitor when they submit the form.

Subscription Settings - (optional)

  • Override Unsubscribe: enabling this will allow contacts to resubscribe to a list they have previously unsubscribed from.

  1. Click Apply to configure the Form.

*Original Platform Configurations*

Start by dragging a Form Content element onto the canvas, then click Edit Form. Complete the steps below to create the form.

Subscription Settings

  1. Select the Channel - You can multi-select to subscribe visitors to both the email and SMS programs.

    1. Email Channel:

      1. Select the List the user will be subscriber to.

      2. Choose to Override Unsubscribe (optional) - enabling this will allow contacts to resubscribe to a list they have previously unsubscribed from.

      3. Enter the Redirect URL link.

    2. SMS Channel:

      1. Select the List Subscription Campaign the form will be connected to.

      2. Enter the Redirect URL link.

  2. Click Next to move to the next step.

Form Fields - optional

Additional fields can be added to the form that can be used to collect data about a contact.

πŸ’‘ To continue without adding additional form field, click Apply to save the Form Settings.

  1. To add additional field, follow the steps below:

    1. Click the Add Field dropdown menu.

    2. Select an existing profile field.

  • Go to Next Step: Sends the visitor to the next step in the Experience when they submit the form.

  • Go to URL: Sends the visitor to the specific user provided URL value when the submit the form.

  • Close Popup: Closes the popup and ends the experience for the visitor when they submit the form.


Make Creative Updates/Edits to an Existing Form

  1. Click Edit on the popup element on the journey's canvas.

  2. Click the form element within the design to open the content property panel.

  3. Select from the various options to make creative updates to the form such as managing the form width, alignment, font styles, form elements (fields, labels and button) and overall block properties.


Update the Field Settings on an Existing Form

  1. Click Edit on the popup element on the journey's canvas.

  2. Click the form element within the design to open the content property panel.

  3. Click Edit Form in the property panel to open the form settings popup.

  4. Repeat the steps in the form configuration section to make changes to the form settings.
