Adding Existing Subscribers to Your Birthday Campaign

If you've already set up a Birthday Campaign in this article, you can take this campaign to the next level by adding your existing subscribers to the campaign. Simply add these subscribers based on their original subscription date. This article is broken down into two sections: existing subscribers with a birthdate and without a birthdate. Follow each of the sections below.

Identifying Contacts with a Birthdate

Before getting started, ensure that existing subscribers that have a BirthDate field is utilizing the same field that's being used in the Birthday Campaign. Check this by navigating from the home menu to Contacts > Email Contacts Profile Field Groups.

Targeting an Existing Subscribers with a Birthdate

  1. Navigate to your Birthday Campaign.

  2. Click the Pencil Icon to navigate to the working version.

  3. Click the List Import Trigger step.

    1. Rename the step to Existing Subscribers.

    2. Select the + icon next to the Existing Subscribers external event that was created in the previous article.

    3. Click Update.

  4. Click on the Goto Birthday step.

    1. Navigate to the Goto tab.

    2. Select the No Wait step in the Birthday Trigger thread. This ensures the previous subscribers will enter the same steps as new subscribers.

    3. Click the Segment Filter tab.

    4. Create a filter to only send contacts to the new location if the birthdate field is completed. You will target contacts based on a profile field, select the specific field group, and then the birthdate field. Select is not empty as the option.

    5. Click Update twice in the popup.

  5. If you have made all necessary changes, click Publish.

    โš ๏ธ This will allow new subscribers into your campaign via your first thread.

Adding Existing Subscribers to the Birthday Campaign

  1. Navigate to Authoring > Conductor External Events.

  2. Select the information icon next to Existing Subscriber.

  3. In the execute on drop-down, select your birthday campaign.

  4. Create the following filter to check that the BirthDate Is Not Empty. This ensures previous subscribers without a birthday will not be allowed to enter the conversation.

  5. Click Update.

  6. Then Execute.

Existing subscribers should be entering through the Birthday Campaign conversation.

Targeting Existing Subscribers with No Birthday

These steps enhance the current existing subscriber thread to ask contacts without a birthday to fill out a form that collects the information.

Send a Message Asking for Birthday

  1. Navigate to your Birthday Campaign.

  2. Click the Pencil Icon to go to the working version.

  3. Create a New Thread.

    1. Name the trigger step Request Birthday Info.

    2. In the event select Birthday Re-entry.

  4. Use the arrows to move the thread above the exit thread.

  5. Add a message step after the trigger step by clicking the plus sign.

  6. Create or edit and existing message asking people for their birthday.

    ๐Ÿ’ก Make sure the message directs contacts back to a location on your website that collects birthday in the birthday field, such as a preference center.

  7. Back in the list import thread, add another goto step after the Goto Birthday thread step.

    1. Navigate to the Goto tab.

    2. Select the Message in the request birthday info thread.

    3. Click the Segment Filter tab.

    4. Create a filter to only send contacts to the new location if the birthdate field is empty. You will target contacts based on a profile field, select the specific field group, and then the birthdate field. Select is empty as the option.

  8. Click Update twice in the popup.

  9. Click Publish.

Adding Contacts to the Campaign

  1. Navigate to Authoring > Conductor External Events.

  2. Select the information icon next to Birthday Re-entry.

  3. In the execute on drop-down, select your birthday campaign.

  4. Create the following filter to check that the BirthDate Is Empty.

  5. Click Update.

  6. Then Execute.

You should start seeing your existing subscribers entering the Birthday Campaign conversation. Be sure to keep an eye on your conversation performance using the Conversation Analytics and Conversion Dashboard!
