To begin working on your message, either choose a template or get started from scratch. You can edit everything as you go along regardless of your initial choice.
The best place to start when designing a new template or message is the Settings tab, located in the right sidebar. Here you will find options for formatting your entire message.
Under MESSAGE STYLES you can set the overarching color scheme. The Body Background Color determines the body of your entire email, while the Content Background Color sets the color for any content blocks you use. Setting this to transparent means your content blocks will be the same color as the Body Background Color. Setting it as any other color will look like this:
You may override these properties on a row-by-row basis by changing the settings under ROW PROPERTIES in Properties.
Fonts & Font Styles
Here you can choose the font you wish to use throughout your entire email. You may override this with a different font in individual content blocks as desired.
Once settings are in place, you can begin adding or editing your elements. Elements refer to building blocks of your email: Structures and Content. Structures are the frames in which you place your Content. Content includes text boxes, images, navigation, social media, buttons, dividers, and HTML.
You must choose a Structure, or layout, prior to adding Content. Structures enable building layouts of 1 to 4 columns or a 6-block grid. Each has several options to adjust the display on mobile, and the 6-block grid is specifically designed to stack 2-up when viewed on a mobile device.
You can also add Saved Content here. This is created separately and is used most commonly to streamline headers and footers across emails. Changes to Saved Content are global and will reflect across all emails in which they are used.
To manipulate Structures, simply hover over the Structure until a light blue menu pops up in the right corner. To delete, choose the trash can icon (on the right). To duplicate a Structure, do the same but choose the copy icon (on the left).
When you have a Structure in place, you can drag and drop content into it. Once you do, you can edit that specific content by clicking on it in the builder. Your editing options will show up in the right panel as its Properties.
To delete content, simply click on your content and choose the trash can icon (on the right). To duplicate content, do the same but choose the copy icon (on the left).
Here you are able to manipulate dynamic content as well as predictive content and recommended products if you have purchased these features. They can be dragged and dropped like any type of content. For a more in-depth discussion of each, please see their individual guides.
Properties show up in the right panel when you click on a block of content. Each type of Element has its own set of Properties, as explained below.
When you click on the side of the message next to your content, you open up your Structure Properties. The panel on the right is separated into MESSAGE STYLES, or universal message properties, and ROW PROPERTIES. ROW PROPERTIES are ways you can fine tune each row with its own unique features. For instance, in this example, we made the content background of this specific row white.
You may also add a background image by uploading one using the Background Image option.
You are also able to manipulate the SPACING, or margin, around your structures. This is measured in pixels (abbreviated to "px")
Spacing adds gaps outside the structure. Below you can see a space of 20px between the row above and the row below.
You are able to adjust these numbers individually or, by setting the top right slider to locked, adjust them all in ratio to one another.
Finally, you can add a border to your content blocks. The + and - determine how large or small it will be, the color picker determines the color of the border, and the dropdown allows you to make your border Solid, Dashed, or Dotted.
Text properties can be found in two places: in a bar above the text you are editing, and in the Properties panel on the left. The editing bar allows you to do the following: create bold, italic, underlined, and strikethrough text. Edit the font color, letter spacing, and add/remove a hyperlink. You can also create a bulleted/numbered list, change the text alignment, and increase the spacing between lines. There is also the option to change the font family, size, and add dynamic tags.
The panel to the right of the Composer builder offers you the option of changing the PADDING. Padding adds spacing inside the structure. Here is our message with 30px padding.
Your Image Component Properties start with a way to choose or replace your image by browsing for the image you wish to use. You can also add alt text, a link, and a link title.
Adjusting the Width bar will change the size of the image you have placed in your message.
Scrolling down, you'll find an option to edit the Padding of the message and add a Border. Much like with text, Padding adds spacing inside the structure, and you can add a border of your color and design. Below you can see we added a dashed blue border around the image.
If your image does not fill the entire Structure, you can adjust it so that it is aligned to the Left, Center, or Right.
Once your message is finished, you will want to save it by clicking APPLY DESIGN. This will take you back out to your message analytics and additional setting. Click SAVE AS at the bottom and your message will be saved.
