This feature is important because it affects the deliverability of your messages. Some email clients, like Hotmail and Gmail, allow recipients to report the message as spam in the header of the inbox. Selecting "Yes" for this feature will allow the subscriber to unsubscribe instead of report the message as spam, which will help preserve your reputation as a sender.

This option defaults to "Yes." To check or modify the setting:

  1. Navigate from the home menu to Manage.
  2. Go to Lists.
  3. Click the three dots on the right-hand side of a list.
  4. Click Settings.
  5. Under the message composition settings, select Yes or No to designate your preference.


To view the results of this selection, you need to see the content of your message header. We use Gmail in the below example. 

1. In the drop down on the right-hand side of the email, click Show original

2. You'll see the encoded version of your message. If you have this feature enabled, this snippet of code will show up in the header of your message:

Some email clients (like Gmail) will take the unsubscribe code in the header of your message and add an unsubscribe link right next to your "from" email address. This generally only happens when you have been identified by Gmail as a sender of great reputation. Gmail and other email clients do this because "Mark as Spam" is a menu item. It's all too easy for contacts to flag you as spam, so they are trying to help by making unsubscribing just as easy.  It is always better to have an unsubscribe rather than be marked as spam.
